Celebration of boyness (and a very little girl)

Mom went to Baltimore for the weekend, leaving the boys to play. Oh boy!

Today was the first day of baseball. Grandpa came over bright and early to watch little man so big bro and coach dad could get to the field early. On the way we met up with teammate Seth and his Dad, aka Coach Jason. The joy of getting their first team uniform was something to see (Dayenu!) but their enthusiasm held for the most part through getting to know their new teammates and drills. Grounders is a definite favorite! After drills, we played a three inning game in against the Arrows. Big Bro hit a solid grounder right to second base; despite remarkable fielding (getting the ball to first base in under 30 seconds and 4 errors in this league is an accomplishment!) he ran it out and still got to first safely. Good hustle! Because Mom wasn't there and I was busy helping (calling it coaching is a stretch) we don't have pictures, but if I can get some from other parents I'll post them then.

We spent much of the rest of the day recounting and reliving the morning. Big Bro proudly wore his team hat all day. I drew the line at only wearing the shirt to practice.

A highlight of the afternoon was going over to Seth's house to meet his new little sister, Gabriella. At least that's why I wanted to go, turns out Big Bro was asking to see the baby, but was really using it as an excuse to play baseball in the backyard with Seth. Go figure. She had better get used to all the boys around!

A second highlight of the afternoon was a conversation with Big Bro. The team is the Knights, but the logo is a horse. At least that's what I said it was. He was sure it is a dragon. (Decide for yourself.) After a little back and forth, he said "I'll tell you what. You have to listen to the coach, the coach is always right." I said "And who is the coach?" He replied "You are. I guess it's a horse, then." I thought about asking why it's OK to not listen to me as plain old Dad but Coach is somehow different. I decided to let it go and enjoy the moment.
