Morning math
Old morning routine = Dad late for work
Old morning routine - morning bottle + cheerios = Early to Daycare
Early to Daycare - 10 frustrating minutes with no teacher in the room despite the center supposedly opening 20 minutes earlier = Dad not early for work
New morning routine starting tomorrow = 20 more minutes of sleep + old morning routine - bottle + cheerios = Dad late for work

Major milestone: First word!
Today was another long, tiring day at the office. I came home, dropped by bag by the front door, and walked to the kitchen. Little man was on the floor playing with a measuring cup and wooden spoon watching mom make dinner. I said something like "hi everyone." He turned around to look at me, smiled, and said "da da!"
True, it just so happens to be the only thing he can say. But after a brief caucus, we agreed that this meets the criteria of a first word:
(1) According to mom, he wasn't talking at all until I walked in the room.
(2) By his physical reaction it was clear he was excited by my entrance and was responding to it
(3) He was looking right at me when he said it
(4) Although he first made a few grunting sounds as he tried to form the sound he was looking for, this is the first time he said "da" or "da da" without mimicking someone else (usually da da himself.)
Now that we have the most important word under our belt, we can get to work on the remainder of our list:
(1) dad
(2) paper
(3) slippers
(4) scotch
(5) neat

glimpse into the future
Mom tries to prepare big brother for what it's going to be like when the little man gets a little older...
more milestones
But wait, there's more!
As of this weekend...
* Little man has added cheerios to his diet. He hasn't quite mastered the art of gumming them (still no teeth yet.) It's fun to watch his concentration has he picks them up with his pudgy little fingers.
* Little man also added lime creamsicle to his diet. After a few licks of mommy's dessert, the end of the pop broke off into his mouth. We now know what his "wow that's cold!" face looks like.
* Big bro finally had his first official sleepover last night. It's
official because unlike earlier attempts everyone actually "slept over."
* Little man added a few consonants (ba! da!) to his vocabulary. Combined with the previously mastered skill of blowing a raspberry (ptthh!) he is now able to declare me as the subject of his derision. (da! ptthh!)

milestones
Two small but fun milestones this week...
(1) Little man rolled over yesterday from his front to his back. He's not crawling, but he's pretty mobile through reaching and leaning and contorting, enough that he manages to make is way a few feet to find trouble if you let him. Soon enough...
(2) Big Bro read little man a book - "Where's Spot?" - at bed time tonight. Both seemed to enjoy it. Hopefully that will turn into routine.

July 4th - Day 2
Happy Independence Day!
Wow, what a day. Meet up at Granny and Gramps Hotel, then walk to Station Square on the South Side for a Just Ducky Tour. Afterwords, lunch at Hard Rock Cafe (The ACDC booth!) then a ride up the Incline for a scenic view of Downtown Pittsburgh from the top of Mt. Washington. After a slight delay (What? A Port Authority vehicle break down?!) we're back at the bottom, and walk to the hotel in time to beat the rain and catch an afternoon bottle and a little rest. In the afternoon, we head to the north shore for a quick dip in the water steps and watch the main race of the three rivers regatta. Then it's back to the hotel to watch Bee Movie and then FIREWORKS! After a little room service, it's back home for some much needed sleep.

Future Football Legends
Good thing these two love football so much, because we found out at this picnic that Big Bro is clearly missing the frisbee gene.
